Woman burnt to death in Lagos-Ibadan expresssway tanker explosion
An unidentified female pedestrian was burnt to death on Sunday in Ogun State when a truck conveying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) ran into a median strip and burst into flame.
The explosion occurred at the Lotto corridor of the Lagos–Ibadan expressway and a female pedestrian was said to be passing by when the fuel spilled on the road with the surrounding areas catching fire.
A witness said no one could brace the raging fire to rescue her as she was quickly engulfed by huge balls of flame.
The accident involved a man diesel loaded with food stuff, commercial Mazda Bus and Daf truck loaded with PMS. The other two vehicles were also burnt in the inferno.
According to a witness, the PMS truck lost control on motion and hit barrier with the content catching fire afterwards.
The incident was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi.
Akinbiyi attributed the accident to loss of control on the truck driver’s part and disclosed that the lady’s corpse was taken to Fakoya morgue in Sagamu while the fuel truck had also been taken off the road to ease traffic flow.
