TRACE: Death toll on Ogun State roads rises to 163 so far in 2019
The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) confirmed no fewer than 163 persons (123 men and 40 women) lost their lives in various road crashes in Ogun State between January and September 2019.
In a statement signed by the Director, Traffic Planning, Research and Statistics, Cdr Ajayi Michael Babatunde, it was shown that between January and September 2019, a total number of 527 road crashes occured involving 134 private cars, 93 private buses, 213 commercial cars, 32 motorcycles, 5 tricycles, 143 commercial buses, 113 medium trucks and 102 heavy trucks.
Also, in the same timeframe, 3,702 persons were involved in road traffic crashes, out of which 817 persons (513 males, 304 females) sustained various degrees of injuries, 163 persons(123 males, 40 females) killed and 2,722 persons were rescued unhurt due to prompt response to 416 emergency calls received by TRACE Corps.
The report revealed accidents caused by excessive speed (49.18%), dangerous driving (21.09%), bad tyres (10.38%), driving against traffic (4.16%), and other causes (15.19%).
