Coronavirus: Students appeal to Governor Abiodun to retain lockdown method in Ogun State
The National Association of Ogun State Students has called on the Governor of the state, Prince Dapo Abiodun to continue with the lockdown against the spread of COVID-19 in the state.
The association presidentm, Gbemileke Ogunrombi, made this appeal in a statement in Abeokuta on Wednesday.
Ogunrombi commended the efforts put in place by the government to flatten the curve of the spread of the virus in the state.
According to him, the method adopted by the state government in relaxing the lockdown for seven hours intermittently was in the best interest of the people of the state.
“It is our strong belief that the state should continue to remain on lockdown, while still maintaining the seven-hour period of relaxation until the state is free of COVID-19.
“This is the only way the state can win the fight against the spread of the pandemic.
“For the governor to have invested billions of naira in acquiring needed facilities and setting up measures to combat the spread of COVID-19, it shows he is prepared to kick the virus out of the state.”
Ogunrombi further urged residents of Ogun State to cooperate with and abide by the lockdown rules and regulations, as that is the only way the efforts of the government can yield desired results.
“The fight against the spread of coronavirus requires the efforts of everyone.
“We, therefore, call on residents to support the government by exercising more patience and bearing with all the measures put in place by the government.
“If not for the hardship on the people, this pandemic is worth locking down the entire country for a minimum of 30 days.”
