Ogun State reveal plans for 2020 Governor’s Cup
The Ogun State Football Association (OGSFA) says arrangements are in top gear to organise the Governor’s Cup football competition.
Chairman of the Ogun State Football Association(OGSFA) who also doubles as a board member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ganiu Majekodunmi made this known in a statement to the Nigeria News Agency on Monday in Abeokuta.
Majekodunmi said that a committee had been set up by the state Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Dr Kehinde Oluwadare, to help birth the competition and stressed that the committee had put in a lot of efforts to make the competition a reality.
He explained further that the committee proposed that the competition should be for those below 17 years of age, thus making it an U-17 competition and each local government in the state is expected to present a team of 22 registered players and three officials.
Majekodunmi added that the competition would feature both male and female categories, just as there would be prize money for the first four placed teams at the end of the tournament.
“We are also proposing prize money for individual awards and preliminary rounds of the competition will be played at the four zones of the state namely: Remo, Egba, Ijebu and Yewa,” he said.
The chairman put the proposed date for the final of the competition at May 29.
