Ogun State produced highest tonnes of solid minerals in 2018 – NBS

The National Bureau of Statistics [NBS] has announced that Ogun State produced the highest tonnes of solid minerals in the country in 2018.

 

The NBS, in its annual report titled State Disaggregated Mining and Quarrying data for 2018, revealed that the Gateway State produced 16.49 million tonnes of solid minerals which represented 30 per cent of the 55.85 million tonnes of solid minerals produced across the country in the year under review.

 

Limestone was the most produced solid minerals in Nigeria and Ogun State produced 9.096 million tonnes of the overall 27.19 million total tonnes gathered in the whole country.

Below is a breakdown of quantities of solid minerals generated from the state in 2018.

 

Granite – 3,489,593.14 tonnes

 

Granite Dust – 1,712,709.94 tonnes

 

Laterite – 665,197.81 tonnes

 

Limestone – 9,096,089.94 tonnes

 

Shale – 931,604.00 tonnes

 

Clay – 569,080.53 tonnes

 

Sand – 17,500.00 tonnes

 

Kaolin – 540.00 tonnes

 

Feldspar – 15,089.68 tonnes of Feldspar.

 

TOTAL of 16,497,405.04 tonnes of solid minerals were extracted.
