Ogun State Police arrest man over rape of 70-year-old woman
A 25-year-old man, Wasiu Bankole has been arrested by Ogun State Police Command for allegedly raping a 70-year-old woman in Agbado.
According to a statement given by the Police Public Relations Officer Abimbola Oyeyemi, the suspect committed the crime last week and was arrested following a report from the victim herself at the Agbado Divisional Police Headquarters.
According to Oyeyemi, the victim was sleeping in her house when Bankole broke into her home, held her against her will and raped her. The victim was rescued by neighbours while the suspect fled the scene leaving behind his clothes.
“Some police operatives were immediately sent after the suspect who was apprehended barely a day after the incident,” Oyeyemi said according to Channels TV.
“During interrogation, Bankole confessed to committing the crime but claimed to have acted under the influence of alcohol.”
The victim has been taken to the hospital for treatment while the suspect has been transferred to the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department as ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson.
