Man sentenced to death for killing his lover in Ogun State
Ogun State high court has sentenced a 39-year-old man, Musiliu Owolabi to death by hanging for killing his lover, Afusat Idowu.
The convict, who is an auto-mobile mechanic, committed the crime on February 1, 2018 in the Camp area of Abeokuta.
The Chief Judge of Ogun State, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu said the evidence presented by the prosecution was tenable and consequently sentenced Owolabi to death by hanging.
The state prosecuting counsel, Mr. James Mafe said the convict took his lover to a hotel for pleasure and after a while, she complained of stomach ache and started foaming in the mouth.
“The convict took her in his vehicle and on the way, he noticed that she was dead. He secretly took the deceased to an uncompleted building, dug a shallow grave and buried her without disclosing to anybody,” Mafe said, according to Punch.
“The convict was arrested when the younger brother of the deceased went to a police station to complain that his sister, who told him she was going for a naming ceremony at the Bode Olude area, never returned.
“Upon police investigation, after the tracking of the deceased’s phone, it was discovered that the convict was the last person she spoke with.
“Upon his arrest, he made a confessional statement to the police and took them to where he buried his lover.”
