Man kills neighbour over theft accusation in Ijebu-Ode
Ejike Okata has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for killing his 50-year-old neighbour over an argument of phone theft at Ayegbami community in Ijebu Ode.
According to Pulse, the 27-year-old man hacked his neighbour to death over phone theft accusation.
The suspect initially fled upon realizing the magnitude of his action but was caught and arrested two days after the incident.
Ogun Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi said Okata was arrested at the Mobalufon junction motor park, while fleeing to his village in Ebonyi.
Oyeyemi said the suspect was arrested following a report by the deceased’s brother at the Obalende Police Station, Ijebu-Ode.
During interrogation, the suspect said ”she accused me of stealing a phone, and I was provoked”, he confessed further that he cut off the woman’s two hands because she wanted to struggle with him to collect the machete.
Oyeyemi added that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Kenneth Ebrimson, had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for further investigation and prosecution.
