Man charged to court for raping physically challenged girl in Ogun State
A 35-year-old man has been arraigned before a magistrate court in Ota for allegedly raping a physically challenged girl.
According to the police prosecutor, Inspector E. O. Adaraloye, the man who is simply identified as Kehinde, lives at Abule-Isale, Ilogbo Road in Ota and he is currently facing a one-count charge of rape.
The defendant was said to have committed the offence at his residence on February 12, 2020, around 10:30 pm.
“The offence contravened Section 360, of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun State, 2006,” Adaraloye said according to Punch.
“The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge, and the magistrate, Mrs A. O. Adeyemi, admitted him to bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
“Adeyemi also ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to the Ogun State Government. The magistrate adjourned the case till June 19, 2020, for trial.”
Earlier this week, the wife of Ogun State Governor, Mrs Bamidele Abiodun, led a protest against rape and gender-based violence on Monday.
Several activists and top government officials joined the governor’s wife in the protest in Abeokuta.
