
Inspector General of Police intervenes in death of Remo Stars defender
The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has ordered the Deputy Inspector-General, Anthony Ogbizi, in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Division (FCID) to take over the investigations of the death of Remo Stars defender Tiamiyu Kazeem.
Kazeem was confirmed dead on arrival at the hospital on Saturday evening after he was harassed by officers of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and he was pushed out from the police vehicle along Sagamu-Abeokuta highway.
His death has left residents of Sagamu in panic with hundreds of them involved in a protest that turned bloody on Monday.
IGP Adamu made the move when reviewing the daily reports of crime incidents in the country and called for calm in Sagamu and he also commiserated with the family of the deceased.
“The IGP M.A Adamu, NPM, mni has ordered the DIG in-charge of the FCID, DIG Anthony Ogbizi to, with immediate effect, take over investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death of Late Mr. Tiamiyu Kazeem in Sagamu, Ogun State on 22nd February, 2020,” the Nigeria Police Force tweeted.
“The IGP gave the order today, 24th February, 2020 while reviewing daily reports of major crime incidents across the country.
“Meanwhile, the IGP while commiserating with the family and friends of the deceased, calls for calm and assures that justice will be done in the matter, reiterating that any person found culpable will be brought to book.”
