Adequate preparations have been set in motion by the Ogun State government with a bid to encourage teachers in the state to strive to achieve greatness. Hence, the Governor’s Teachers’ Excellence Awards.

Governor Dapo Abiodun wants to mirror the President’s Teachers’ Excellence School Awards (recognition for teachers across the country) in the state, with the ambition of making it bigger than the national awards.

In this year’s President’s Teachers’ Excellence Awards, Ogun State bagged four awards out of the 15 awards handed out.

Governor Abiodun received the awardees at his Oke-Mosan office and expressed his administration’s commitment to better the quality of education in the state and also support the teachers in carrying out their duties.

“I want to introduce a state challenge among teachers in our state. The challenge will be known as the Governor’s Teachers’ School Excellence Award,” Governor Abiodun was quoted by the state media.

“We are going to domesticate this. What we will do to those that excel will be bigger than what you got from the President-Teachers Award. We will expand it to accommodate more teachers.

“Today, you have done us proud, our heads are ‘swollen,’ you have done us proud. It is important we sustain it, and one of the ways is to establish the Governor’s Excellence Award.”

Also in his reaction to the state’s feat at the national level, Governor Abiodun promised varying cash gifts and other incentives to the winners with Best School Teacher (Private School Category) Mr Adebiyi Abiola Temitayo, from Varsity Children Grammar School, Ijebu-Ode, getting 2 million naira.

Best Teacher Senior (Public), Mr. Adeeko Olalekan Ademola, from the Baptist Boys High School, Saje, Abeokuta, has a reward of 1.5 million naira; Best School Senior Secondary (Public), Mr Olalekan Dawodu, the Principal of Mayflower School, Ikenne, gets 1 million Naira; and the Best Administrator, Junior School (Public), from Aderenle High School, Ifo, gets 500,000 naira.
