Governor Abiodun’s wife seeks end to gender-based violence in Ogun State
The wife of the Governor of Ogun State, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun has expressed her concern on the issue of domestic violence among women and other gender-based violence in the state.
Mrs Abiodun, who is also the chairperson of the Management Committee of Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law, voiced her worry at the inauguration of the Nigeria Police Family Support Unit’s facility at the Sango-Ota Area Command.
“When perpetrators of crime know that they will face the consequences of their actions, they will think twice before engaging in those kinds of acts,” Mrs Abiodun, said per Punch.
She described the Police Family Support Unit as a safe place where anyone could come forward and speak up regardless of age, and without the fear of intimidation or stigmatisation.
In response, the authority in charge of the Sango-Ota Area Command, ACP Monday Agbonika, commended Mrs. Abiodun for her role in championing the cause and providing logistic support and training of officers managing the unit.
The wife of the Commissioner of Police and chairperson of Police Officers’ Wives Association in Ogun State, Mrs Habiba Ajogun, described the initiative as first of its kind in the history of the command.
