Governor Dapo Abiodun has ordered the immediate release of three protesters who were charged with attempted murder in Ogun State on Tuesday.

Matairu Faruq, Olatoye Olalekan, and Adeniji Sodiq were arrested in Abeokuta during the protest against police brutality and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, alongside 24 other people who have been released on Sunday.

They were, however, remanded in custody till Monday before they were arraigned at the Isabo Magistrate’s Court in Abeokuta where they were charged with four counts by the Ogun State Police Command.

After the court proceedings, Governor Abiodun disclosed the government has dropped all charges levelled against the trio with their immediate release from custody.

“On my instruction, the Attorney General has reviewed the evidence in the investigation case file in respect of the three suspects that were remanded in a custodial centre on 12th October, 2020, Ogun State has decided not to charge them with any offence,” Governor Abiodun tweeted.

“They are to be released immediately.”
