Goals from Nicholas Egbirigba and Godspower Igbah helped Gateway United to grab their first victory on the road this season after a 2-0 win over Spartans FC of Lagos in Wednesday’s Nigeria National League fixture.

After settling for a 1-1 draw against Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan [3SC] in their last league outing, the MKO Abiola Stadium outfit gave an improved performance to secure maximum points at Agege Stadium.

The victory in Lagos shot Gateway United to the third place in the league standings with 20 points from 12 games. They are four points adrift of league leaders Shooting Stars Sports Club who thrashed Abia Comets 4-1 in Ibadan on the same day and three points behind second-placed Bendel Insurance.

Hakeem Busari’s men continue their push for promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League with a home tie against Abia Comets in their next league outing on October 3.
