Father and son arrested for killing herdsman in Ogun State
A 45-year-old man, Kolese Womiloju, and his 25-year-old son, Taiwo, have been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly killing a 32-year-old herdsman, Abubakar Usman.
The suspects who reside in Gbagba Elewure village in Odeda Local Government Area reportedly killed Abubakar for allowing his cows to graze around their farmlands.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed the killing and said the suspects were arrested by the police for conspiracy and murder last Wednesday.
Oyeyemi said the suspects were arrested following a complaint lodged by the elder brother of the deceased, Bello Usman, at the divisional headquarters in Odeda about the sudden disappearance of Abubakar who had a cattle settlement at Gbagba Elewure village.
“Upon the report, a search party was organised for Abubakar. Later in the evening, the corpse was found in an abandoned well in the nearby bush, where he was thrown after he had been killed, Oyeyemi said per The Punch
“The DPO, Odeda Division, CSP Ajayi Williams, led detectives to the scene, where the victim was seen with deep machete cuts all over his body.
“Having confirmed that the deceased was murdered in cold blood, the DPO and his men commenced an intelligence-based investigation into the case, which led to the arrest of the father and his son, who also live in the same village with the victim.
“On interrogation, they both confessed to killing the deceased, because they saw him grazing his cows around their farms.
“They stated further that the deceased was warned to take his cattle away from the area and when he refused, he was beaten with a charmed ring, which made him to be unconscious, after which he was butchered to death.
“He was then dragged to an abandoned well about one kilometre from the place and was dumped there.”
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Kenneth Ebrimson, had ordered that the suspects be transferred to the Homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
