#EndSARS: Crisis as protesters and custom officers clash in Ogun State
A protester and an officer of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have been reported dead in a scuffle that happened along Owode/Idiroko road in Ogun State on Tuesday.
The crisis was reportedly triggered when a stray bullet fired by one of the custom officers while chasing suspected smugglers hit a yet-to-be-identified protester and he died immediately.
Meanwhile, residents of border communities in Ogun State had earlier stormed the customs office in Idiroko border to demand an end to the killing of innocent citizens by men of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
When one of the protesters was killed in a similar situation, the angry youth allegedly attacked the custom officers with sticks, killing one and injuring another as others scampered for safety.
However, the Ogun 1 NCS Area Command Spokesperson, Hammed Oloyede who confirmed the incident did not agree that the NCS Officers killed a protester.
“It is not a matter of somebody was killed, our officers were attacked by hoodlums. One has been killed, another one sustained gunshot injuries, Oloyede said according to Daily Post.
“Hoodlums attacked them in their large numbers. The officers did not even go on patrol, they were just at their patrol base observing caution because of the situation in the country.
“They were in camp and the hoodlums just attacked them.”
