Coronavirus: Federal Polytechnic Ilaro constructs mechanical ventilator
As the global demand for ventilator rises amid the coronavirus pandemic, the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro took it upon itself to construct a mechanical ventilator.
The Rector of the institution, Architect Olusegun Aluko, said it took the team seven days to produce the widely sought medical equipment that is needed in the treatment of victims battling Covid-19.
“It took us one week through trial and error. Now there is no trail again; all the information that we used are documented. All we just need to do now is to feed them into the system, start mass producing and coupling them,” Aluko said on TVC.
“If we can produce this one within one week, with all the research, that means in a matter of two days we should be able to produce one.”
The Ogun State Government team which was led by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tokunbo Talabi and the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Tomi Coker travelled to Ilaro to assess the ventilator, and they commended the initiative, especially its quality and outlook.
The visiting officials noted that the ventilator constructed was of standard and also recommended areas for improvement.
