Buruji Kashamu: Former Ogun State Lawmaker dies of coronavirus

Former Governorship aspirant in Ogun State, Senator Buruji Kashmau has died after battling with coronavirus.


The 68-year-old who represented the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the 2019 Gubernatorial election, was confirmed dead at the First Cardiology Consultants in Lagos on Saturday.


Kashamu who represented Ogun East Senatorial District at the National Assembly, was reported to have died of complications caused by coronavirus.


He represented Ijebu North East, Ijebu North, Ijebu-Ode, Ijebu East, Ikenne, Ipokia, Odogbolu, Obafemi Owode, Remo North, Sagamu, and Ogun Waterside – the 11 Local Government Areas in Ogun East during his four-year tenure in the Senate chamber between 2015 and 2019.


His former colleague in the Nigerian Senate, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce confirmed the death of the seasoned politician on social with a glowing tribute to ‘a good friend’.


“I have just lost my good friend of forever to Covid-19. Until his death, Sen. Buruji Kashamu and I were inseparable. He died today at First Cardiology Consultants, in Lagos. May his gentle soul rest in peace. I pray his family and loved ones the fortitude to bear this heavy loss,” Senator Murray-Bruce tweeted.


Prior to his successful senatorial election in 2015, Kashamu defeated Prince Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress (APC) before bowing to the present Governor of Ogun State in 2019 Gubernatorial election.
