Anthony Joshua makes surprise visit to his hometown, Sagamu
Sagamu was flooded with celebration and jubilation when world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua arrived for a surprise visit.
Joshua was born to parents from the Southwestern part of Nigeria in Watford, England and had his early education in Ogun State before leaving for the UK following his parents’ divorce at the age of 12.
The two-time unified heavyweight champion and 2012 Olympic Games gold medalist attended Mayflower Secondary School in Ikenne.
During his surprise visit on Wednesday, Joshua paid homage to the Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, Torungbuwa II, at his palace.
Joshua’s father family home is popular in Ijokun area of the town and open space is regularly used to show his bouts to the residents of Sagamu.
Joshua is apparently keen on reuniting with his roots as he was pictured with his National Identification Number [NIN] slip after enrolling for the National ID card in the early hours of Wednesday.
